This week is Afterschool Professional Appreciation Week. The Elsberry R-2 School District started Explorer's Club in 2011 and E2 in 2016. Currently we have students attending these programs before and afterschool in preschool through eighth grade. Currently 83 students are enrolled at Explorer's Club in preschool through fifth grade and 30 students are enrolled at E2 which serves sixth through eighth grade. The funding for afterschool comes from the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant.

Mrs. Wilch’s Kindergarten class participated in a Solid Shape Museum! Students took turns presenting their objects. They told what the object is and what 3D shape it represents. Students then placed the objects in the correct category in the Museum. After all presentations concluded, students completed a recording sheet by choosing one object for each shape to illustrate and label. Adding real world connections and hands-on experiences help students grasp these important concepts in a fun and engaging way!

As every parent knows, a child that’s short on sleep can swing between being grumpy and hyperactive, with effects that can mimic ADHD. Sleepiness can also affect your child’s ability to pay attention, with ramifications for their performance in school. Even minimal sleep restriction can have effects on your child’s day-to-day life. Establishing a daily bedtime routine can have a huge impact on your child's overall health. A typical bedtime routine might include: *Turning off computers, TV screens, video games, and other bright lights *Putting on pajamas and brushing teeth *Reading a light book, singing a lullaby, or taking a bath *Picking a stuffed animal or security blanket for the night for toddlers

The last STEM Saturday of the school year was the perfect way to spend this rainy day! Students used 3D Start+ Pens and coded with Ozobots. They learned about mixing colors and how rainbows are made. They planted seeds, made a graffiti wall, painted suncatchers, built train tracks and designed with IO blocks. We ended the day learning about exercise science and movement. We are so thankful for the collaboration between Explorer's Club, A+ Volunteers, Operation Backpack and Career Ladder that have made STEM Saturdays possible for our students.

On Paraprofessional Appreciation Day we want to give a shout out to the support staff at the Elsberry R-2 School District. Paraprofessionals are educational rockstars who make everyday better for students. They inspire, encourage, instruct, motivate, and create relationships that last a lifetime. They're a big deal and our school is so lucky to have such an incredible team of paraprofessionals on staff.
