Mrs. Jolene Hatcher serves all the students and staff at the Elsberry R-2 School District. Not only does she deal with sickness, she monitors daily meds, immunization records, schedules the dental clinic and vision van, and does CPR and First Aid training. This is just the tip of the iceberg of all the things she does day to day. Nobody looks forward to a call from the school nurse, but we are very lucky to have Mrs. Hatcher on our staff.

We are celebrating Nurse Hatcher throughout the District today on National School Nurse Day. When Mrs. Hatcher is not at school she enjoys camping and spending time with her family. Thank you for all you do each day Jolene!

We are proud to announce Ezekiel Byers as our 2024 St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete. During High School Zeke has participated in Track and Field, Cross Country, and Basketball. He has also been actively involved in National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Senate, School Pub, and Band. Zeke has many accolades in his athletic career at EHS. In Track and Field he has been a sectional qualifier five times, a state qualifier four times and was awarded the Outstanding Mid-Distance award. In Cross Country Zeke was selected for 2nd Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-District, and was a state qualifier. His basketball recognitions include 2nd Team All-Conference, selection for the All-Conference Team, Most Valuable Indian (MVP) award. Zeke plans to continue his education and is currently planning to attend Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. Zeke is the son of Sam and Margaret Byers. In its 58th year, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete program honors one student from every area school, a requirement being that they participate in athletics and excel in the classroom. The Scholar Athlete Program was the brainchild of Hall of Fame Baseball Writer Bob Broeg in 1965. Broeg wanted to honor high school seniors whose success was not only on the field, court or ice rink — but students who excelled in the classroom as well. Those honored are athletes who lettered in at least one varsity sport, are in the top 25 percent of their graduating class and are in good standing at their respective high schools.
